The Gaming Industry

 

The chosen industry that I have chosen to do is the gaming industry I have chosen to the gaming industry because they are one of the most famous industries in the world. The gaming industry earns billions and billions of pounds and dollars. The gaming industry is all the companies of games together. The gaming industry began in 1971 one with the very first computer game called (Computer space).  The following year a company called Atari Inc. first commercially published called pong. The two most important companies are Sony and Microsoft these two companies mad the consoles that we have now which is PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Sony made millions of pounds making the PlayStation 3 and so did Microsoft with the Xbox 360. Sony are a Japanese company Sony’s headquarters are in Tokyo in japan. Sony didn’t just make consoles they also made TV’s DVD players, so Sony are a massive company who make a lot of money. Whereas Microsoft is a different company, Microsoft are an American multinational company. Microsoft headquarters are in Washington Microsoft also making a lot of money as well. The games industry is also where they sell the game and publish them and also make the games as well.

There are 6 different stages in the games industry for the supply chain they are:

Developers

Video game developers are where they are software developers; a games developer is also a single person who undertakes all the tasks to a larger business with employee responsibilities also a games developer is a developer that develops the game for the company.

Publisher

A games publisher is a publisher who publishes the games that they have either developed internally or have had been developed by a games developer. Games publishers usually finance the development sometimes they might even pay the games developer also they might pay internal staff or developers called studio.

Console manufactures

Console manufactures are also known as 1^st party video game publishers is a company that manufactures and also distributes video game consoles in addition to permitting third party publishers to produce games for its platform.

Distribution and Retail

Distribution and retail means that where they sell into retailers delivering games direct from the warehouse to the retailer. This is also where the public buys the game. Retailers also allocate shelf space for titles, though publishers/distribution negotiation, and also organise point of sale promotions. The distribution side and retail companies have signifant influence on the types of games that get made. 

Outsourcing companies

Outsourcing companies provide a variety of servies to devlopers and also publishers including: Art, animation and also desighn rendering graphics and also physics engines and programming; audio souned and intallisation.

Press and media

Pres and Media are the larger sector in the games industry becuse they include magazines and telvishion and newspapers also journelist.

What are some of the big comapnies in the games industry?

Some of the big comapines in the games industry are Activision, infinity ward, ubisoft, Treyarch, these are only some of the big companies in the games industry. Activision headquarters is in sana monica california united states this comapnay made the call of dutys mostly which is a big selling game. the next comapny is infinity wards headquarters are based in los angeles califonia they aslo were joint with activision to make call of duty. The next big company is Ubisoft there headquarters in france they made the assassins creed series. One of the very big companies that is very popular is Rockstar north thye rae a very large company who made all the gta's they have just made a new gta which is the most popular game that has been made which made half a billion.

Uk game companies

The uk gameing industry is Europes largest vidieo game market and also the thrid largets in the world. the number of gamers that played the uk comapines made 33.6 billion pouneds. many majore videio game franchises are developed in the uk, including grand theft auto, Tomb Raider, burnout, little big planet, wipeout and dirt.

The three jobs that i am interested in is games testing, games desighner, and 3d animation. In games testing they perform a vital role which is testing,tuning, debugging and also suggesting the detailled refirments that ensure the quality and playibility of the finshed game. basically all they they do is play games all day and then write an essay to say if their are any problems in the game any gliches they also look for programme bugs. There are no specif qualifications that you need but you do need knowlge skills also some programiing skills aswell. You also need good standard english. To get into the job you will need to go to university to get into games testser. The amount that you whouild get is £17.51 an hour just for playing games and also writing essays aswell.

A games desighner is basically a desighner that formulate the concept and vishion for a game. They basically devise the world, setting, stroy and also characters and all other game elements and desighn details. The Qualifications that you need is a degree in science and humanites aswell as art and desighn you need art and desighn for the concept art which is very important in games desighn for the games desighners. To get into the job you whouild have to do 3 years in college and then go onto university. Games desighners get £31.27 an hour thats $50 in us money they can also earn up to $1.million a year.  That is a lot of money.

A games 3d Animator is basically an animator that drwas all the characters in 3D they work as part of the art deparment team. Using the objects and models, characters created by 3D artists. Animators also define their movemnets and behaviour and apply them using the animation tools and techniques provided by the selected 3D animation software package. The quallifications that you whouild need is a general degree in art course with a computer animation component.
